Efrain Escudero traveled to Sao Paolo, Brazil to face Jorge "Macaco" Patina in the MAX Sports event on May 11.  Accompanied by Benson Henderson and his trainers, the trip to Brazil was chaotic, including a trip to New York City for last minute visas.  The fight itself was very close, with each fighter clearly winning one round, and leaving the first round to decide the fight. The hometown fighter was given the controversial decision, but Efrain would love to see him again soon to settle the score.  Through a thoroughly trying week, Efrain carried himself like a gentleman and a champion, showing what we really strive for at the MMA Lab.  Thanks for being such a great sportsman and competitor Effy, we are very proud of you!

It was an exciting night in San Jose, CA, as the defending UFC Lightweight Champion, "Smooth" Ben Henderson, defended his title belt once again.  In the process, Benson matched UFC legend BJ Penn for most lightweight title defenses in the UFC.  Despite defending his belt and matching BJ Penns record, the Champ had bigger plans for the evening.  After the results of the fight were announced, Benson dropped to a knee and proposed to his long time girlfriend, Maria Magana.  She happily accepted and the evening was perfect.  Congrats to Benson on his record tying victory, and on his engagement to Maria.  What an exciting and wonderful  time it was, and we are so pleased to have been part of it.  Way to go Champ!

The Pan Jiu Jitsu Championships were held in Irvine, CA from March 20-24, and the MMA Lab/JCBJJ Competition team was there with 10 competitors.  The team won several medals including Chris Zubrycki; bronze, Brian Weinbrandt; sliver and Mike Martin and Renato Freitas who both took gold in their respective divisions.  It is great to see our team growing and doing well in these major competitions.  We are so proud of each of our students that went and laid it on the line, and our most sincere congratulations to all the competitors that went

Chris Zubrycki won the MVP of the 2012 competition season. Chris has been an invaluable asset to the MMA LAB since he walked through the doors six years ago. He has helped with everything from teaching the kid's program to training with the MMA LAB Elite, and has always been there to help with whatever needed to be done.  It is great to see Chris get rewarded for his hard work and dedication, and we could not be more proud.  Good job Chris, looking forward to what the future holds.

Alex Caceres ran his UFC win streak to 3 in a row, when he defeated dangerous Korean fighter Kyung Ho Kong. Aex put on a gutsy performance, coming back from a strong showing by Kong in the first round, to capture a split decision victory at UFC on Fuel 8.  Alex was an inspiration during his camp, showing an incredible work ethic as he prepared for his second international fight.  We feel very lucky to have Alex as a member of our team and look forward the next time he comes out.  Congratulations Alex, big things are on the way!

Jordan Johnson made his MMA debut last night at KOTC: Regulators, and won in impressive fashion.  Jordan finished his overmatched opponent with an Anaconda choke just 1:30 into the very first round.  Jordan has been working towards this fight for a while now, and his hard work paid off with a great performance.  We are very proud of Jordan and are very happy to have him as part of our Lab Elite.  Congratulations Jordan, this is the first step on what is going to be a fun journey!

Ben had a welcome home party a couple of weeks ago and it was a huge success.  Lots of folks showed up and took photos, got autographs, and had a great time.
