“I started training at The MMA Lab in May 2017. Up until then, I was a gym rat in the traditional sense but always had a feeling that something was lacking. Working out, lifting weights or running on the treadmill was enough to keep me in shape but not enough to keep me interested. When I found The Lab, all of that changed.
Training at The Lab is easily one of my favorite things. I get a workout and feel like I am on a team at the same time. The Combat Cardio classes are the most fun and difficult workouts I’ve had since I was a high school athlete. Never a dull moment. When I am done, I feel amazing. My strength and endurance has vastly improved.
In addition to making my body strong, I am making it useful. I had never heard of BJJ until 2 years, so little did I know what an impact it would have on my life. My focus has since shifted away from working out merely for aesthetics. Now, I train to be ready to compete and use my skills, or to defend myself should the situation arise. Another thing I love is that this gym has a growing group of female athletes, so there is always someone my size and skill level to train with.
I have found that BJJ challenges more than just my body, it stimulates my mind. Coach John Crouch is amazing at illustrating how “in a fight” a certain move can diffuse the situation or at least neutralize a “bad guy.” These real-life examples help make the technique stick. I continuously learn from my coaches and my teammates, and every time, I get just a little bit better at BJJ and at handling the challenges life throws my way. Training at the Lab has shown me I can grow and apply what I learn on the mat, to my life off the mat. Proud to be part of this family.”
